Tax Credits Increase Ad Production In MA
As you may have noticed, numerous advertising agencies are keeping more of their production and post-production in Massachusetts due to the MA tax incentives.
Boston has been seeing an influx of feature length films being shot throughout the region. The Ad community is also taking advantage of these tax credits. According to the Massachusetts Production Coaliation, "a single commercial or a series of commercials for one client with production expenses over 50K in a consecutive 12 month period" are considered "a motion picture" and qualify for the tax incentives. All commercials must be made in Massachusetts, in whole or in part, for theatrical or television viewing.
The tax code, which passed back in 2007 ,includes some of the following provisions:
* 25% credit on all spending in state
* No sales tax on production spending
* No caps. No limits.
A complete summary of the tax incentives can be found here.
As you can see, these tax credits apply to production and post-production for advertising as well as film. Good news for Boston's Ad community during this economic crunch.

The Hatch Awards had a great turn out again this year, thanks to months of planning from The Ad Club. It's always nice to see everyone in the ad community mingling and checking out the great work that has been created in our area.
Finish and Soundtrack Boston were proud to sponsor the event and the AirCraft Music Library also donated music to be used during the ceremony.
Congratulations to all the winners, especially Gary Koepke, Lance Jensen, Tim Blount, Kapil Kachru and Shane Hutton from Modernista! who took home Best of Show for the Modernista! website.
New ADR Stage In Boston
Now Up And Running
We recently finished building a film-style ADR room that's fully equipped with a Panasonic video projector and a 90" Stewart projection screen. Stage G is now available for all of your ADR needs. So, if you don't get clean audio during your shoot, feel free to bring your talent into Stage G to record new audio to match your picture.
For booking, please contact Beth Gimbrone. You can reach her at bgimbrone@soundtrackboston.com
or 617-303-7500.
AirCraft has decided to expand into the business of representing "Independent Artists," to expose the recordings of singer/songwriters, bands and other musical artists to the advertising and film worlds.
We've started gathering material that represents a broad range of genres, themes and eras. Over the next month, we will start adding this new material to our online search engine. This way you will be able to type in search criteria such as genre, energy, quality of production, region (i.e. Seattle, Brooklyn, Boston), etc., instead of sifting through a slew of demos and MySpace pages. All of this music will be pre-cleared and immediately available for licensing.
We hope this will be a mutually beneficial project. One that will provide independent artist with more exposure, and one that will make it easier than ever for you to find the musical flavor you're looking for!

Thanks to all who attended our "Ladies Night Out" at DaVinci this October. Good times, food and cocktails were had by all. It was fantastic to see so many women in our industry making time to exchange ideas, unwind and slow down just long enough to have some fun. Special thanks to Margie Sullivan from Redtree for helping us host the evening. Hope to see you all again next year!!
